Vanessa Chrystie

LACE II, 2005

The expression Lace means both the intricate needlework and to tie up. Both of these meanings may be invoked in this work by Vanessa Chrystie. She constructs a pattern through the repetition and serial showing of geometrical forms. Within this texture one may feel a certain dynamism and also a sensation of frailty. The lace resembles a mesh built up by an insect. Indeed, the things that populate this geometrical game are insects (caught in the spider's web?), and, being disguised within the image, they are the ones who make up the plot.
