Rita Magalhães

UNTITLED, 2005

Rita Magalhães' work is founded on a permanent investigation concerning the light and intimate environments emanating from the universe of painting, mainly from that of the XVIIth century. Departing from the old masters, in this case Caravaggio and his The Supper at Emmaus, the artist restages the work focusing her attention on specific details of the original and then investigating specifically light and colour. The re-creation of these works constantly diverges, in some way, from the original, summoning the spectator's visual memory into the work's construction.
