Marco Pires

UNTITLED, 2005

The painting presented by Marco Pires may be included within the theme of landscape, one of the most traditional fields of painting. However, the view that Pires adopts is related not to a classical attitude but to the contemporary world. The aerial point of view represents a new gaze on the earth, a type of gaze that has only recently been conquered. When seen from the sky, the image ends up being simplified. Detail is annulled, and a mesh of color stands out, transforming the landscape into an abstract image.
